iPhoto’s Flickr and Facebook Export Feature

If you’re a regular Flickr.com or Facebook.com user, you no doubt use some sort of uploading client to post your photos to your account. The latest upgrade of iPhoto ’09 includes built-in Flickr and Facebook exporting features that are useful but very incomplete. The export buttons are found in iPhoto’s toolbar, and they work similarly to the MobileMe web gallery features of iPhoto. Read more…

Using iPhoto ’09′s Adjust Tool

With digital photography, it’s every easy to take several hundreds of photos at a time, with no added expense. But just because you take 500 vacation photos doesn’t mean you have to process them all. You can choose some of your best photos from the shoot and take a little extra time to improve upon them using iPhoto’s post-production tools. Apple has made the exposure and color adjustment process in iPhoto fairly easy and in some cases less time consuming than working in Adobe Photoshop Elements or one of the larger CS programs. This article will describe how to use the Adjust tool on an average photo. Read more…

Picasa 3.0

I don’t use Picasa Web Albums as my main web sharing photo site, but since it’s free I do occasionally archive favorite family photos there.

So anyway, I was just checking out the new features of Picasa 3.0. You can view those features for yourself in the video above, but one cool feature I want to point out is Name Tagging. Yep, it’s about tagging your photos, but it’s a little different. Read more…

Backup Media Card Tip

I feel compelled to write about this camera tip – the first one for this site. Sadly, on two recent occasions I left my house without a media card in my camera. Now as a wedding photographer, it’s typically unlikely to ever leave 4-8 media cards at home. Those cards usually remain in your camera bag ready to go. Read more…

Aperture 2.1.2 Update

According to Apple: “The Aperture 2.1.2 update improves the printing quality of books, cards and calendars ordered through the Aperture printing service. The update is recommended for all customers using Aperture 2.”

I’m working on a Aperture book now, so maybe we’ll see just how much this update improves the print quality. From my experience with iPhoto and Aperture books the printing is okay but not outstanding. I think a little color saturation is lost in the printing, and the quality of paper for the books is not very high.

But overall, the ability to do book layouts in Aperture is still very convenient and pretty easy to do.

Image Editing in Preview

You ever have one or two photos that you need to do some quick image editing on, but you don’t want to open up iPhoto or Photoshop to do the work? Well, simply select your image file and open it up in Leopard’s Preview application. (Or just drag and drop selected images onto the Preview application icon in your dock, and they will open that way.) Read more…
