Great tips! Worked for me in India, especially #5. I would add that having a 50mm prime lens not only make you move more around the place (instead of zooming in and out), but in most of the cases you can take the f all the way to 1.8, or even further. In reply to mary. Nepal was wonderful. We did the southern Annapurna circuit and spent some time in Patan just south of central Kathmandu. Tourism is such a significant part of the economy. Taking pictures of people was quite open and welcomed. No one expects $$ unlike some places I have traveled.
