Love the prism advice, the result looks great! (works with people as well, haha!) Animal photography is amazing, you're not only preserving the memories but can make calendars with photos of your pet or create a collage of their pictures throughout the years! We do that with our cat a lot, he's old now and having so many of his photos is very heartwarming.

Personally I find pictures of posed dogs about as interesting as photos of stuffed dead dogs. The whole ‘essence of dog’ is movement and spontaneity. this is by far the worst dog/pet photos i have seen. the fairy lights, flair and “bokeh” is such a distraction from the main subject. the only tip worthwhile is making use of natural light.
