I put a 512 GB mini card in my tablet and have a card reader that connects directly to my tablet. I shoot about 2-3 days on a card and then retire it and put in a fresh card, check it for images, then format it. I carry 12, 32GB cards and 6 64GB cards, and that’s usually way more storsge than I need. I use a Pelican case for the 12 cards, the 6 64’s are in an off brand case. I turn my used cards upside down in each case.. seems to work.. so far.. BTW.. great article.

Or at least call them Nikon or Fuji.
Every time I name a card in the computer – the name doesn’t survive the re-formatting in the camera.
Is there a workaround ?

I personally have never violated any of the rules in your article, but I’ve always wondered if deleting at the camera would degrade the card. I suppose I have my answer.

Photographers should create a very simple and consistent workflow for themselves, whereby they come home, dump their day’s work onto their computer or drive, then format the memory cards for next use.

One thing I especially advocate in terms of backup safety is loading two cards in your camera at once and using the setting in your system where each card is saving as a mirror of the other as opposed to moving onto card 2 after card one is full. You cycle through cards faster, but it’s well worth the peace of mind.

It was due to an SD card erased many times but never reformatted – Canon Service Tip
This caused a problem when shooting….
So now, I no longer delete my photos after loading, I FORMAT!

One of my strategies with my memory cards is I have numbered them and rotate them regularly, ensuring that any wear and tear is evenly distributed.

When it’s full or nearly full take it out, flip the security switch (my cameras us SD cards) and store, just like your negatives in the days of film. My “exposed” cards are stored in 35mm film tubs (yes I shoot film too!). I always format in the camera I intend to use them in when I buy them.

This is what some of these bloggers do to try to keep a blog seeming relevant. But readers just end up needlessly confused, reading outdated material. In this case 11 years later SD card technology has had lots of advances.
